Haedong Yonggungsa Temple (ํด๋์ฉ๊ถ์ฌ) was built in 1376 and is one of Korea’s few seaside temples, perched on dramatic rocky cliffs with waves crashing below.
Best Time to Visit
Sunrise (particularly on New Year’s Day) is the most popular time โ thousands gather to pray for the new year. The 108 stone steps down to the temple are lined with zodiac statues.
Legend
According to Buddhist tradition, praying at this temple guarantees one wish fulfilled. Look for the golden pig statue โ rubbing its nose is said to bring wealth.
